Industry Outlook: Next 40 Years, SWEET CORN INDUSTRY
From its inception during 1990, Thailand Sweetcorn industry grew steadily and today became the world number one exporter of canned Sweetcorn. Thailand exported more than 173,000 Mt of canned Sweetcorn during 2010 or about 10% growth as compared to 2009 despite the negative natural disasters of drought and floods which set back targeted harvest plans by about 30%.
Thailand strength lies in its ability to produce Sweetcorn almost throughout the year from mid January to early December and can recover the crop within 4 months should we face natural disaster. Other countries can process only 2-3 months of the year.
Due to worldwide natural disasters over the last 2-3 years, Thailand Sweetcorn industry should take this opportunity to replace the void from other producers. By continuously expanded to many countries which are Asia, East Europe, United States and also Russia. Thailand can retain the world market leader of Sweetcorn export eventually.
We can therefore project a favorable trend for Thailand Sweetcorn industry with the ever increasing world population and Sweetcorn remain as snack demand on the dinner plate.
There will be worldwide competition for Sweetcorn as many more emerging countries start to develop this product.
THAILAND SWEETCORN STILL HAVE A VERY BRIGHT FUTURE.
